There is nothing like spending the Holidays in Hawai’i. With so many places to go, things to see, and special Hawaiian traditions we asked some of our amazing employees how they enjoy spending the holidays and what some of their favorite Holiday traditions are.
We talked to Shalei Eleneki to ask her about some of her favorite Hawaiian traditions, and things to do during the Holidays!

Hi Guys!
What is your favorite Hawaiian Tradition or Holiday? How do you and your Ohana celebrate?
My favorite holiday might be Lā Ho’omaika’i (Thanksgiving). We prepare a traditional meal together – We harvest Taro, cooking and cleaning it then pounding it to make Pa’i ‘Ai. We prepare Kalua pig in the Imu (underground oven). Along with Lomi Salmon, we catch and prepare I’a (fish) ‘A’ama (black crab) Opihi and ‘Opae. Then we spend time together, go to church and share food with the needy.
Around the Christmas holidays we enjoy reaching out to our community, doing whatever I can helping families in need, donating or volunteering (Kōkua). We also take part in some Makahiki Games (traditional Hawaiian games and contests) like: ʻulu maika, Ihelu Pahe’e. Hukihuki, Haka Moa, Kōnane, etc. We also love to stop at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Shopping Center for their annual “snow” experience.

Best Hawaiian dessert? Where can you find it?
Kulolo! But it has to be homemade.
Best Beach in Maui?
For Families I would say Kama’ole III, but if you’re looking for something off the beaten path then I’d suggest Waiehu Beaches.
Best Hiking Spot in Maui?
Waihe’e Ridge Trail
