Essential Maui Tour

This experience includes roundtrip interisland airfare from Oahu to Kahului, Maui, roundtrip transportation from Kahului Airport (OGG), and a guided sightseeing land tour showcasing the best of the Valley Isle.

Experience Maui’s highlights on a laid-back journey featuring nature’s wonders and historic landmarks. Haleakala National Park is truly breathtaking during the daytime, when sunlight illuminates its vast volcanic slopes and endemic wildlife roam the landscape. Keep watch for the endangered Nene geese and the shimmering Silversword plant, found only on Haleakala’s slopes.

After your morning exploration, enjoy a delicious lunch at the iconic Haliʻimaile General Store, a beloved upcountry restaurant known for its fresh, island-inspired cuisine. Then, visit a local distillery* for a guided tour and tasting, where you’ll learn how Maui’s agricultural bounty is crafted into award-winning spirits.

*NOTE: Guests under 21 must wait outside during tastings (15–20 minutes), and a valid photo ID is required.

Next, continue to the lush beauty of ʻIao Valley. Take a short walk past a meandering stream surrounded by native Hawaiian plants to view the legendary ʻIao Needle — a towering emerald-green outcropping rising 1,200 feet above the valley floor. Rich in cultural history, ʻIao Valley was once a sacred burial site for Hawaiian royalty.

Departure

5:00 AM – arrive on your own at Honolulu International Airport (HNL). The airlines change their flight schedules frequently and at the last minute so please ensure that you check flight status on your own. At the Honolulu Airport, check-in on your own at the self-service kiosk or at the ticket counter for both flight segments to and from Kahului, Maui. Please follow the instructions on your confirmation for where to meet your tour driver at Kahului Airport.

7:00 PM – approximate return to Oahu from Kahului.

Haleakala National Park is home to over 1,000 different species of plant life. During the 38-mile drive up the dormant volcano, you’ll see the magnificent Silversword plant, found nowhere else on earth, and pass ancient sacred locations, and breathtaking views from the safety and comfort of your mini coach.
Haleakala was formed approximately 1 million years ago through the building of layers upon layers of flowing lava. It has been a sacred location for Polynesian people who settled on the island 400-650 A.D.
Haleakala Visitor Center, at 9,740 feet elevation was constructed in 1936 and is a small stone structure on the edge of a cliff.
Experience Climate and Topographical Changes as you gently glide through the varying elevations. Keep an eye out for the rare Nene Goose.
Views of Kula come into focus when approaching the open country slopes of the district meet agricultural land in this rustic region, home to early Portuguese and Chinese immigrant plantation workers.

Please meet at the airport at 5:00 AM for your interisland flight on Hawaiian Airlines and promptly check at the Hawaiian Airlines Ticket Counter or Self-Service Kiosk. Make sure to check in for all flights (round trip) and then proceed to the designated gate for departure.

A full refund is provided if the tour is canceled more than 168 hours prior to tour departure time. If canceled within 168 hours of tour departure time or if guest no-shows no refund is provided. Refund requests are to be received within 30 days of the date of the tour. Fees assessed by the airline for name or date changes and any overage fees will be the responsibility of the guest. Refunds or partial refunds for tours, activities, flights, or venues that are cancelled due to reasons outside of our control (weather, force majeure, etc.) as well as refunds for extenuating circumstances will not be honored.

The National Park Service and the Department of the Interior authorize Polynesian Adventure Activities to serve the public in Haleakala National Park. This service is operated by Polynesian Adventure Activities, a Concessioner under contract with the U.S. Government and administered by the National Park Service.
