Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum

Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum

Still bearing the bullet holes from that fateful day in December 1941, two former World War II seaplane Hangars, 37 & 49, have been transformed into one of our country’s leading aviation museums.

Oahu PAM Plane Smile

After experiencing a 12-minute film filled with real footage of the events that took place on that fateful day – December 7th, 1941, visitors to the Hangars that reside on Ford Island, a former Naval Air Station and National Historic Landmark, are able to walk among authentic military aircraft used during WWII.

The museum’s 48 aircraft include an actual Japanese Zero and a Stearman N2S-3 that was once piloted by President George H.W. Bush. The Museum’s exhibits also include the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, F-111 Aardvark, and a number of helicopters, including an AH-1 Cobra. There are also themed exhibits such as the “MiG Alley” Korean War Exhibit, “Amelia Earhart in Hawai’i” photo exhibit, a working 1940’s Restoration Shop, and a celebration of commercial aviation in the Pacific—the Pan Am Exhibit.

The Museum offers visitors a free audio tour in six different languages, has a Gift Store on-site, a WWII themed Laniakea Café, that offers fresh food, wine & beer, and a virtual-interactive flight simulator where visitors are able to take part in a virtual dogfight over Guadalcanal. For a truly in-depth experience, sign up for the guided tour where visitors are treated to a behind the scenes look at the inner workings of Hangar 79, and its role as a restoration shop for retired war planes.
