The King Kamehameha Statue Byodo-In Temple Hanauma Bay

The King Kamehameha statue stands prominently in front of Aliʻiolani Hale in Honolulu, Hawaii. The statue had its origins in 1878 when Walter M. Gibson, a member of the Hawaiian government at the time, wanted to commemorate the 100 year arrival of Captain Cook to the Hawaiian Islands. The legislature appropriated $10,000 for the project and made Gibson the director of the project, which originally included native Hawaiians but they soon were off the project and Gibson ran the project by himself. Gibson contacted Thomas R. Gould a Boston sculptor living abroad in Florence, Italy to create the statue.

My wife and I really enjoyed the tour and especially appreciative of the accommodations for my wifes electric scooter which enabled her to get around despite here disability. Reviewed by: G. L., USA, November 2010

It was well worth the investment and glad we went on it right after our arrival in Hawaii. Reviewed by: D. N., USA, November 2010

It was good to get away from the tourist areas & see the Hawaiian countryside. Oahu is lovely, and the people friendly - something one doesnt always find when traveling. Our only complaint is that it makes for a very long day, and many of us were ready to be back in Honolulu a couple of hours before we actually got there. Still, we wouldnt have missed seeing the rest of the island. Reviewed by: P. G., USA, November 2010

Leo was great! Great information provided and had a wonderful time.... he was very entertaining! Reviewed by: E. M., Australia, October 2010

The grand circle island/Dole pineapple tour was great! The tour guide, Koko, was very knowlegeable. The tour covered much of the island and gave a very nice overall picture of Ohau. We got to see more of the rural side of the island and to appreciate the agricultural & other scenic opportunites as opposed to what is available in Waikiki. The Dole pineapple plantation was very interesting. Reviewed by: H. P., USA, October 2010

It was very informative and our driver Leo was the best. I have never bin enywere with three Leos in the same place. We had lots of fun, and leared a lot. Reviewed by: L. B., USA, July 2010

Aloha, This has been a great experience for several reasons: comfort (bus), scenery, tour guide (bus driver). Leo, our tour guide, several times asked if it was too hot/too cold inside the bus. You could tell he cared for his passengers. The seating and the windows were excellent. And what about the scenery! The stops were well selected (Japanese Temple, lookout point, etc). It really felt like we were in paradise (I guess we were...). Our bus driver, Leo, was not good, he was awesome. His sense of humour, his insightful comments and his driving really made this tour one of the highlights of my stay in Honolulu. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate this tour a definite 15 ! We were very glad to do this tour of Oahu, as when you are in Waikiki you are only in the city and do not get to see the true beauty of the island. Our tour driver, Garfield, was great. He explained all the sites and even stopped at a Macadamia Nut store for us which was not originally a part of the tour. The Dole plantation I felt was a little bit disappointing as there was not much to see (just people waiting in line for Dole Whip), but I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone wanting to see other parts of Oahu. I enjoyed the tour The bus driver was very informative. It is well worth the time and money Reviewed by: n. g., USA, June 2010

So... we decided to do the goofy touristy thing at least once on our Honeymoon, and we scheduled a tour with these folks. We ended up choosing "the Grand Circle Island Tour with Kualoa Ranch & Dole Pineapple Plantation" tour. I was honestly skeptical about it because neither my wife nor I are "bus tour" kinda people. We're the "cruise the island on our own and go where the locals go" kinda people. Well, I was wrong in my skepticism... at least this time. We got on the bus and we were greeted by our driver/guide... Keau (kay-ow). From the moment we got on the bus, until the time we ended the tour back at our hotel 10 hours later ("a ten hour tour" plays in the background to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme song), Keau had us smiling, laughing, and having a great time. He was informative, personable, and HILARIOUS. He mentioned he's been with the company for 24 years. Well, I can see why. He's excellent at his job. You can tell he loves it, and after getting to know the guy, if he's worked at a company for 24 years, I know it's got to be a great company to deal with. So I feel even better about doing the tour with them instead of one of the many other tour companies on the Island (one of whom, we dealt with and did not have the same pleasant experience). It was seriously one of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii and we're thankful we did the tour. You will be too.

My wife and I just returned from a one week stay in Hawaii. On our first full day on the island of Oahu, we took the Oahu Grand Circle Island Tour. Michael was our driver & tour guide and he did a great job of showing us the highlights of the island. It was a nice way to learn about Oahu while also helping us see which areas we wanted to visit again later on in our vacation. There were a lot of great photo opportunities and we had ample time at each stop in order to enjoy ourselves. We are glad that we took this tour.
